Alex Santa Maria

Alex is a native of the valley born right here at Good Sam. After attending career days at Maryvale High School he knew he wanted to be a radio DJ and landed his first gig at KRUX in 1978 doing a half hour Show covering local high school sports. Alex is coming up on 31 years in broadcasting and over that period he has worked at almost all the valley's stations like KOPA, KXAM, KUPD, KUKQ, KZZP, Power 92, Y95 and Party Radio. Alex also spent 3 years working in Los Angels and has worked in every aspect of the business from Program Director to Marketing and Music Director.

After opening a Karate School in the 90’s Alex thought he was ready to hang up his headphones but then MEGA 104.3 came on the air and once again Alex’s passion for Old School got the best of him and he came on board just months after MEGA signed on 10 years ago. Alex is currently doing his 2nd round as the morning DJ and is our resident old school expert. In 2003 while doing afternoons on MEGA Alex won the New Times Best of Phoenix Title “Best Radio Personality”

When not on the air Alex spends as much time as he can with his wife and 5 children who all still participate in the daily activities at the Karate School (WayoftheDragonKarate.com). For Alex his love of music and Martial Arts go hand in hand, that’s how he landed his first radio gig, from a Karate demonstration. But that’s a story for another time...

Great Loss

Growing up in Phx I was always listening to the radio and dreaming of one day being on the air!! The first stations I remeber was KRIZ and KRUX (which is where i got my first on air job) and the first DJ that I ues to try and imitate was the Lengedary Bill Heywood, Unfortunatly he was found dead yesterday along with his wife Susan in a Scottsdale Hotel, there is talk of a suicide, I cannot tell you how much this sadens me!! I just talked with Bill recently at a ABA lucheon and he looked great was in good sprits and as always made me feel great about the career that I have chosen theses past 32 years. Bill lead the way for all of us on how to in this bussiness everything from how to speak, talent fees, show prep to how to manage contracts, endorsments and self marketing, he changed radio for all of us! I am having a hard time beliving that someone who had the radio industry at his feet for so long would commited suicide? There has been reports of him losing his home in forclosure and hard times, but what of all his financial success in this State? and he was not a person who would crumble ! Bill was a fighter and he knew how to win! I hope that when the rest of the story unfolds we find the truth! for now all I can say is Bill Heywood was a big part of this humble DJ's life and I will always admire the work he has left behind! R.I.P. Bill & Thank you for all that you gave and have left behind!!

Dont Cheat on an atist!!

This is Crazy!! this will teach her not to cheat! great Idea..

Tattoo artist Ryan Fitzgerald from Dayton, OH was hit with a $100,000 lawsuit last week by his ex-girlfriend Rossie Brovent.  She claims that her boyfriend was supposed to tattoo a scene from Narnia on her back but instead tattooed an image of a pile of excrement with flies buzzing around it.

Apparently, Ryan found out that Rossie had cheated with a long-time friend of his, but instead of confronting her about it he acted like everything was normal and hatched a plan for revenge. Originally, Rossie tried to have Ryan charged with assault, but the ingenious tattoo artist had covered his bases by plying Rossie with wine and tequila shots and getting her to sign a consent form that stated the design was “at the artist’s discretion.”

No word from Rossie on whether the illicit night of passion with Ryan’s friend was worth it. Moral of the story? Never cheat on a tattoo artist.
