PHOENIX, AZ – Profitcy Entertainment presents ‘90s Memorial Weekend Jam featuring R&B music’s Dru Hill, Sunshine Anderson, Carl Thomas and J. Holiday at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 24th at the historic Celebrity Theatre.
It’s been more than 20 years since Dru Hill released their self-titled platinum-selling debut album. Founded in Baltimore, Maryland, as a quartet, the group recorded seven Top 40 hits, including the chart toppers “In My Bed,” “Never Make a Promise” and “How Deep Is Your Love.” Dru Hill has survived more than a few bumps along the way but their legacy remains intact. Original members Tamir “Nokio” Rufin and Mark “Sisqó” Andrews (who achieved international success on his own with the hits “Thong Song” and “Incomplete”), along with new additions Playa’s “Smoke” and “Black” are set to release their 5th album Second Coming later this year.
The R&B songstress from Charlotte, North Carolina, Sunshine Anderson exploded on the music scene in 2001 with her debut single “Heard It All Before.” The song reached #3 on the R&B charts and was inescapable that summer pushing her album Your Woman to gold status. The Sun Shines Again (2010) is Anderson’s third and latest album featuring the retro-soul single “Lie To Kick It,” which was the #1 most added song to R&B/Adult Contemporary Radio, beating out entries from superstars such as Usher, R. Kelly (whom she toured with briefly) and Eric Benet.
The cool yet passionate Carl Thomas has two Grammy nods, over 4 million records sold and is best known for the hits “Emotional,” “Summer Rain” (featured on the Samuel Jackson featured movieShaft soundtrack) and the chart topper “I Wish.” The R&B crooner began singing around the Chicago area, where he was spotted by Sean “Puffy” Combs who signed Thomas to Bad Boy Entertainment in 1997. Thomas’ last major label release was with Verve Records entitled Conquer (2011); its first single “Don’t Kiss Me” featured Snoop Dogg and the song’s music video reached over 1 million viewers.
Laid-back Washington, D.C.-based R&B vocalist J. Holiday (born Nahum Grymes) came to prominence in 2007 with the Grammy nominated album debut Back of My Lac‘. The album topped the R&B/Hip-Hop charts fueled by the hits “Bed” and “Suffocate.” Holiday’s second album, the more romantic Round 2, followed in 2009. His latest single “25 to Life” was released last October, as well as an announcement that an upcoming album titled Time is in the works.
